A VIRTUAL APPRECIATION EXPERIENCE
The Women in Tech event, hosted on Thursday, 29th October 2020 by Innovator Trust, is an annual celebration on the Innovator Trust calendar. This year, they decided to switch things up and hosted #WIT2020 as a Virtual Appreciation Experience. Maven Solutions are a proud incubation partner of Innovator Trust.
The event presented a special opportunity for the Innovator Trust to recognise the female beneficiaries of our Enterprise Development Programme – women who have made great strides as business owners in South Africa’s technology landscape – for their incredible performance throughout an exceptionally challenging year.
Their aim for the event was to take stock of the year, its many lessons, and #End2020Strong. These sentiments were mirrored by the esteemed line-up of speakers and special guests, which included Lillian Barnard, Managing Director of Microsoft South Africa, the inspiring Professor Thuli Madonsela, and businesswoman extraordinaire, Basetsana Kumalo. The event was hosted with fitting poise and passion by TV personality, the lovely Leigh-Anne Williams.
2019/2020 Top Achiever Awards
As announced at the event, Gauteng based entrepreneurs, Lufuno Ndou, Ruby Moodley and Maria Motau were honoured for their innovation, dedication and incredible contribution to the ICT industry.
April – June 2020 Top Achievers
In first place, we congratulate Globescope Holdings (Glynn Mashonga), in second place we have Effective Telecommunications (Liesl Christensen), and in third place, Soma Solutions (Marilyn Radebe). Glynn and Liesl are members of the Maven Solutions cohort.
Innovator Trust Pinnacle Award
Western Cape entrepreneur, Jennifer Claasen, received the Innovator Trust Pinnacle Award, which recognises her outstanding commitment and engagement throughout the course of the Innovator Trust Programme, as well as her exceptional conduct as an ambassador of the Innovator Trust, representing all SMMEs on a global stage.
Innovator Trust Top Employment Creator Award
Another very important category was the Top Employment Creator Award, granted to Liesl Christensen of the Cape Town-based company, Effective Telecommunications, in recognition of her significant efforts to create employment opportunities within their business. With South Africa’s unemployment rates in critical need of focused attention, efforts to create job opportunities by a local SMME such as Effective Telecommunications, despite a difficult economic climate this year, is a feat to be congratulated and is fitting with the launch of South Africa’s Presidential Employment Stimulus announced earlier this month. Bravo!
In addition to the Top Achiever and other titles, the winning ladies also received a cash prize to invest into their businesses.
Maven Solutions are proud to showcase the achievements of some of their cohort.
